First - I’ll say that I’m not an SEO expert. But I am very good at research.
I’m not convinced that I have the answer. But I do have a plan.
LSI, or latent semantic indexing, is a technique of information retrieval that was invented in 1990 (Wikipedia). So what does that mean?
It is a mathematical algorithm that the major search engines have been using to rank organic searches based on the contextual relevance of the keywords to the remainder of the content.
In other words, if your keywords are “private label rights” and “health content” but your article is about search engine optimization then the relevance of keywords to article content is low which will affect your ranking.
However, the jury is really out on how MUCH it will affect your ranking. And since Google isn’t talking, the real answers are hard to discern.
It appears that although LSI is important to the relevance of content to keywords it won’t increase your search engine optimization. BUT if your LSI is low, and the content doesn’t match the keywords, it will negatively affect your ranking.
Basically you’re in trouble if you don’t have a good LSI score, but having one won’t raise your rank.
The idea of ranking well for good quality content isn’t new. ‘White hat’ techniques have won out over time, every time. Using high quality content increases the amount of time your readers stay at your site, which increases your ranking. The better your content the more other sites will link to you.
Is this all because of LSI? Should you lose sleep over your potential score? NO!
Are you obsessing and just can’t stop thinking about it? Head over to Quintura.com for some quick contextually relevant words to match your keywords.
But seriously - lose sleep over your credit score not your LSI score. Provide great content that matches your keywords and your LSI will take of itself.
